Privacy Policy

1. Privacy Statement
Obsilide is an Android handwriting notebook. You write with a stylus, and a slice of your own handwriting can be turned into a link to another note. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
Your notes never leave your device. Obsilide has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no sync. Nothing you write is uploaded anywhere, and the developer cannot read it.
The app makes exactly one kind of network request in its life: activating an Obsilide Premium license, described in section 3. If you never buy Premium, it never contacts the network at all.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
By default, Obsilide saves everything in Android's app-private storage. You may instead choose a storage folder through Android's system folder picker. Obsilide then copies and verifies the existing notebook files before switching to that folder. This includes:
- Your notes — a Markdown file per note holding its title and links, and an ink sidecar holding your strokes
- The thumbnail image generated for each note on the home grid
- Your pen, marker, and eraser preferences — color, size, palm-rejection window
- App preferences and per-note view state, such as theme and each note's zoom and scroll position
- If you buy Premium: a flag recording that the license is active, and a random installation ID. The license key itself is not stored after activation.
Local only: none of this is sent to the developer or to any third party. App-private files are deleted when you uninstall Obsilide or clear its storage. Files in a custom folder remain under your control and may be readable by other apps to which you grant access.
Android's own backup feature is left on, as it is for most apps. If your device backs itself up to your personal Google account, your notes may be included in that backup. That copy is governed by your device and cloud provider, not by the developer, and you can turn it off in your Android settings.
3. Information the App Transmits
Your notes are never transmitted. There is no sync, no upload, no telemetry, and no crash reporting. The one network request the app can make is license activation, and it happens only if you buy Premium and paste in a key.
When you activate a license, the app sends two things to a small server run by the developer:
- The license key you paste into the activation dialog.
- An anonymous installation ID — a random identifier generated once on your device. It is not derived from your hardware, your Google account, or anything about you, and it is not attached to your notes.
That server forwards both to Creem, the payment provider that issued the key, which confirms the key is valid and belongs to Obsilide Premium. The answer comes back as a yes or a no. The server exists only so that the payment provider's API credentials do not have to ship inside the app; it keeps no database and does not log license keys.
Once a license is active, the result is saved on your device and the app does not contact the network again — not on the next launch, not ever. Reinstalling Obsilide or clearing its data means activating the key once more.
3.1 Permissions and Their Purpose
Obsilide requests one Android permission:
INTERNET— used solely for the license activation described above.
It requests nothing else: no storage, camera, microphone, location, contacts, or phone state. You can check this yourself — Android lists an app's permissions on its Play Store page and under Settings → Apps → Obsilide → Permissions.
4. Buying Premium
Obsilide Premium is a one-time purchase, and it is optional — the free notebook is complete, has no account, and makes no network requests at all.
The purchase itself happens on Creem's hosted checkout, on their systems. Your card details are entered on their page and are never seen by the app or by the developer. What the developer receives is Creem's record of the sale — your email address and the license key issued to you — used to deliver that key and to support your purchase, and for nothing else. It is never sold or shared.
Creem is the merchant of record for the sale. Their handling of your payment and email is governed by Creem's privacy policy.
5. Third-Party Services
On your device: Obsilide uses open-source Android libraries — Jetpack's ink, graphics, and input components — for stroke rendering, low-latency drawing, and file handling. They run entirely on your device and collect nothing. The app contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Off your device: only two services are involved, and only if you buy Premium — Creem, which takes the payment and issues the license key, and Cloudflare, which hosts the activation endpoint and processes the request as its infrastructure provider.
6. This Website
obsilide.com sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, or trackers. The site is served by GitHub Pages, which processes ordinary request logs (including IP addresses) as its infrastructure provider. Choosing to buy Premium sends you to Creem's checkout, which is subject to their policy rather than this one.
7. If This Ever Changes
Features on the roadmap — syncing across devices, publishing a notebook to the web — would by definition move more data off your device. They will be opt-in, they will be described here before they ship, and the notebook will keep working entirely offline if you never turn them on.
8. Minors' Privacy
Obsilide is a notebook and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age.
9. Policy Updates
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address with a revised effective date.
